SET-IJBURG: Sinterklaas Celebration

For the annual Sinterklaas celebration at SET-IJBURG, the goal was to create a poster that captured the nostalgic and magical essence of this beloved Dutch tradition. Moving away from cartoonish imagery, this design utilizes a sophisticated, typographic approach to invite the community to the "World Living Room" (Wereldhuiskamer) for an afternoon of gifts and togetherness.

The challenge was to design an announcement that felt both festive and elegant, appealing to both children and parents. It needed to convey specific logistics (registration, gifts, timing) without cluttering the visual impact of the main invitation.
The Concept & Strategy: The design strategy focused on "Timeless Warmth."
Visual Language: We chose a deep, rich velvet-red background to evoke the warmth of the season and Sinterklaas's iconic attire.
Typography: The centerpiece is the intricate typography. A mix of bold, classic serif fonts for the main title ("SINTERKLAAS FEEST") pairs with elegant, flowing script fonts for the dates and details. The ornamental swirls and snowflakes add a touch of magic and movement, reminiscent of classic holiday cards or vintage storybooks.
Information Hierarchy: While the aesthetic is vintage, the layout is modern and clean. Essential details like the date (5 December) and time are centrally located, while registration instructions are discreetly placed at the bottom to maintain the poster's artistic integrity.
The Outcome: A striking and inviting poster that stands out as a piece of festive art. It successfully communicates the event's warmth and inclusivity, promising a memorable afternoon for the neighborhood's children.
