Project Overview: This project involved the creation of a series of event posters for Lokal 432, a vibrant community hub in Amsterdam, alongside the visualization of these posters in various mockup environments. The primary goal was to announce Lokal 432's significant inaugural events, such as the "Open Middag" (Open Afternoon) and the "Home Game" documentary screening, by creating inviting, informative, and aesthetically appealing visuals for potential attendees.
About the Client: Lokal 432 (formerly De Olympus / Spectrum) is a dynamic center located in IJburg, Amsterdam, that brings together artists, start-ups, small businesses, and local initiatives. It aims to foster a strong community spirit by providing spaces for working, meeting, and creating together.
Design Objectives:
Brand Alignment: To create a design language that reflects Lokal 432's warm, modern, and community-focused ethos.
Clarity and Information: To present event details (date, time, location, registration information) in an easily readable and understandable manner.
Visual Appeal: To design dynamic and memorable visuals that attract the target audience (local residents, art enthusiasts, entrepreneurs).
Versatility: To ensure the designs could be effectively utilized in both digital and print materials, especially as posters and flyers.
Design Process & Approach: The project began with a detailed exploration of Lokal 432's target audience and the nature of its events. Key themes identified were "community," "creativity," "sharing," and "accessibility."
Color Palette: Lokal 432's brand colors (red, navy blue, white) were utilized to create an energetic and inviting atmosphere.
Typography: Modern, legible, and characterful fonts were selected to ensure both the prominence of headlines and the clarity of event information.
Visual Icons: Icons appropriate to each event's theme (e.g., a house icon for "Open Middag," film reel and popcorn for "Home Game") were incorporated to enrich the visuals and reinforce the messages.
Composition: Information was presented in a hierarchical order, allowing viewers to easily grasp the most important details. Dynamic elements (stars, handwritten-style fonts) were added to convey a youthful and energetic feel.
Mockup and Visualization: Various mockups were employed to showcase how the designs would appear in real-world scenarios. While initial explorations included generic phone mockups and billboards, the "floating poster" concept was ultimately adopted as it best conveyed the project's uniqueness and the designs' intricate details. This approach, set against a minimal and modern background, aimed to highlight the clarity and aesthetics of the designs, offering visitors a "realistic yet artistic" presentation experience. Additionally, the integration of local elements, such as Amsterdam's characteristic canal houses, further emphasized the project's local identity.
Outcome: This project successfully delivered visual materials that effectively promoted Lokal 432's inaugural events, resonated with its brand identity, and communicated clearly with its target audience. The design successfully combined information dissemination with an aesthetic presentation, aiming to boost interest in the events and solidify Lokal 432's position within the community.
